March 26th 2014

We made our way back to the grocery store we found Daniel by.  Surprisingly enough, there was some canned food that was still good, and a few crates of water that were in the stock room.  The building was very creepy though.  The only light was flooding through the front entrance and a huge hole where the ceiling collapsed, and it casted long dark shadows on everything.
Mary had found a back hallway, which had been sandbagged, and had a few dead people in the corner.  We entered cautiously. I told Brandon and Mary to watch the door as me, Daniel, and Amber cleared the small offices.
I grabbed the doorknob, looking at Daniel and Amber to see if they were ready.  They had their guns pointed levelly at the door.  Slowly I twisted the knob and gave a little push.  The door slowly opened and I raised my rifle.  A stench wafted out of the room that was so strong and rancid it made my eyes water.  I slowly stepped in, covering my nose with my shirt, and wiped my eyes.  I peered into the darkness, seeing dark mounds.  I realised that the mounds were people.  There must have been at least twenty-five.
"They were probably hiding from the Purogs" Daniel said as he stepped into the room
I felt like we were in a mass graveyard.  "Well it looks like they found them." I replied.
"I don't like it in here," Amber said standing in the hallway, "we should leave."
We agreed and made our way back down the hallway to Mary and Brandon.
"Sshhhh...," Brandon whispered "I heard something out there."
I moved behind the sandbags, and looked out into the darkness.
A deep voice shattered the silence, "Nolo hic diutius experiamurque, si aliquid invenire possis discurrerent. Nos postulo ut munda ubique."
"We ain't going out that way." I whispered to everyone. "Brandon, take point, then Mary, Daniel, Amber.  I'll take the rear.  Hopefully there is a back door."
We walked slowly and quietly down the hallway for what felt like an eternity.  Suddenly barking pierced the air, startling me. "Pick up the pace!" I said, as I tapped Mary's shoulder.
We rushed down the hall, looking around for an exit, and still trying to be quiet.
"This way!" Brandon whispered loudly.  The barking grew louder and boots echoed.  We burst out into the sunlight, blinding us momentarily.  We broke out into a full sprint across the road.
"Into those dumpsters!" Amber called out.
We all jumped into the dumpsters, and dug to the bottom, burying ourselves in rotting trash.
The barking peaked and rang in my ears.  The dogs scratched and pounded on the dumpsters, barking furiously.  We stayed as still as we could.
The noise suddenly stopped and a voice broke the silence, "Hi sunt canes demens!"
Another voice replied, "Sunt forsit iustus esurientibus. In vilia labi, si quid ibi clamabunt in dolore."
BANG! Our eardrums exploded as they fired into the dumpster.  A few minuets later, they left.  We stayed there for a long time, then we cautiously climbed out.  The bullet grazed my shoulder and Daniel's leg, and passed millimeters from Amber's head.  We headed back to the school in the twilight of the falling sun with nothing more than a few cans of soup and bottled water.

March 25th, 2014

I've finally decided to keep a journal, for my sanity, and to organize my thoughts.  History is written by the victors, so out of optimism, it wouldn't hurt to write what has happened so far.

My birthday.  And the day nuclear war heads descended upon New York City, New York, Washington DC, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The first two I understood, but Utah?  My friend told me, "Utah was one of the first to be attacked because we have so many government buildings that deal with national security and weapon development."

Right now me and my little militia is hunkered down in my old high school in Orem Utah.  We have created a fortress out of the school, and have been here for several months.  After the attacks started, the local Police forces set up stations in the nearby city centers to function as bases of operation for the Army and National Guard.  They were all pulled to the front lines, and never came back.  So, the leftover citizens banded together and used the abandoned weaponry to fight, but they failed. Miserably. Now we huddle in the nearby high school.  All five of us.
Following my zombie apocalypse plans (which we all had back then), I made my way to the nearest armory, which in this case was the city center, grabbed what I could, and ran to the high school.  On my way, I found Daniel, one of my friends, who was hiding in a field behind the grocery store, with a backpack full of C4 and a pistol he picked up off of a dead policeman.
We made it to the school, with little incident, found the best vantage point, and set up camp.  Later that week we found Amber and Mary, who were stocking up on ammunition and food, and Brandon, who had collected several sniper rifles and was camped on top of a half burned down church.
Right now we are huddled in the auditorium, its raining outside, which finally will clear the soot and smoke from burning buildings out of the air, and there are helicopters flying overhead to the Purgo's base camp in the city to the south.
Suddenly, some static and voice came over the radio, "...US militia... Appalachian mountains...Louisiana bayous...city...fire..." then static.
After another helicopter flew overhead, we all decided that we needed to sleep.  I'm taking the first watch.
