I've finally decided to keep a journal, for my sanity, and to organize my thoughts. History is written by the victors, so out of optimism, it wouldn't hurt to write what has happened so far.

My birthday. And the day nuclear war heads descended upon New York City, New York, Washington DC, and Salt Lake City, Utah.
The first two I understood, but Utah? My friend told me, "Utah was one of the first to be attacked because we have so many government buildings that deal with national security and weapon development."
Right now me and my little militia is hunkered down in my old high school in Orem Utah. We have created a fortress out of the school, and have been here for several months. After the attacks started, the local Police forces set up stations in the nearby city centers to function as bases of operation for the Army and National Guard. They were all pulled to the front lines, and never came back. So, the leftover citizens banded together and used the abandoned weaponry to fight, but they failed. Miserably. Now we huddle in the nearby high school. All five of us.
Following my zombie apocalypse plans (which we all had back then), I made my way to the nearest armory, which in this case was the city center, grabbed what I could, and ran to the high school. On my way, I found Daniel, one of my friends, who was hiding in a field behind the grocery store, with a backpack full of C4 and a pistol he picked up off of a dead policeman.
We made it to the school, with little incident, found the best vantage point, and set up camp. Later that week we found Amber and Mary, who were stocking up on ammunition and food, and Brandon, who had collected several sniper rifles and was camped on top of a half burned down church.
Right now we are huddled in the auditorium, its raining outside, which finally will clear the soot and smoke from burning buildings out of the air, and there are helicopters flying overhead to the Purgo's base camp in the city to the south.
Suddenly, some static and voice came over the radio, "...US militia... Appalachian mountains...Louisiana bayous...city...fire..." then static.
After another helicopter flew overhead, we all decided that we needed to sleep. I'm taking the first watch.
